Former Grimsby Town defender Zak Mills has joined fellow League Two club Morecambe following his departure from Blundell Park.
The 26-year-old was one of 11 players to be released by the Mariners at the end of the 2017/18 season, alongside the likes of Nathan Clarke, Ben Davies and Sean McAllister.
Mills’ release proved to be one of the biggest surprises upon the announcement of the club’s retained list, with many Grimsby Town fans expecting him to be offered a new deal upon the expiration of his previous contract.
The defender becomes the first of the 11 released players to find a new club for the forthcoming 2018/19 season, and joins Morecambe alongside former Hartlepool striker Rhys Oates, who was unveiled by the Shrimps at the same time.
On signing Mills, Morecambe boss Jim Bentley told the club’s website: “Zak has a non-league background and is very hungry and focused.

“Again, like Rhys, he is a player we’ve always been impressed with in the past when we’ve seen him play or played against us.
“He’s a good athlete, decent defender and has a couple of years’ experience playing at League Two. He is a right-back but we’ve actually seen him play left-back and centre midfield which always helps.
“We see him as a player who can get even better and hopefully he’ll do that whilst with MFC.”
Mills made 66 appearances in all competitions for Town after making the move from Boston United in 2016.
Fifty-eight of those came in the league, with the defender making himself a regular starter at full-back for the Mariners as he competed with Davies for the slot on the right of the defence.
The pair were both released by boss Michael Jolley earlier this summer though, with fellow right-back Reece Hall-Johnson enjoying a breakthrough period during the final few weeks of the season.
