Gianfranco Zola’s agent insists Chelsea are yet to make contact with the Italian over the possibility of a sensational return to Stamford Bridge.
The former Chelsea star has been tipped to form part of Maurizio Sarri’s backroom staff if, as is expected, the former Napoli boss takes charge in west London.
Zola spent seven years at the club before leaving in 2003 and fueled speculation he was set for a return on Tuesday by bidding farewell to his fellow studio guests on South African TV while covering the World Cup.
‘At the moment there are a lot of rumours about me, but we’ll see what happens and what happens in the future — at the moment, it is only talking but nothing is decided,’ said Zola.

But Zola’s agent Fulvio Marrucco has denied claims his client is imminently set for a move to Stamford Bridge but he insists Sarri’s appointment is not dependent on a move.
‘Gianfranco is a Blues legend and his arrival is not dependent on that of Sarri,’ Marrucco said.
‘I can only speak on behalf of my client and reaffirm that there has not yet been any meeting with the Chelsea management.
For Sarri to go to Chelsea, three things need to happen: Conte has to be sacked, Napoli and the Blues have to reach an agreement and, finally, Sarri has to reach an agreement with the club.
‘It [working with Zola] is a hypothesis, but we’d have to see what the roles would be and how their duties would be split.’
