According to the Daily Echo, Southampton are willing to let goalkeeper Fraser Forster leave the club on loan, following the arrival of Angus Gunn.
It is widely believed that Southampton are willing to let goalkeeper Fraser Forster leave the club on loan, with the Saints agreeing to subsidise the majority of his £65,000 a week wages to push through a deal.
Forster has dropped out of favour at St. Mary’s, with the excellent performances of English counter-part Alex McCarthy, followed by the arrival of the promising Angus Gunn, Forster is no longer a priority at St Mary’s.
A move to the Championship would be an ambitious one, but when you consider Forster’s options, if he wants game time, the Championship may very well be the best option. There could be space for Forster at a team in the bottom half, but game time can not be guaranteed for the 30-year-old, who will be desperate not to miss out on the twilight years of his career.
Leeds United are a team desperate for a solution to their goalkeeping woes and while Forster would be a temporary solution, if they achieve their ambitions of promotion, the move would undoubtedly benefit both and pave the way for a permanent deal.
As it stands, Leeds United are set to sign Chelsea ‘keeper Jamal Blackman on loan and realistically, the signing is uninspiring to most Leeds fans. United have shown their early intentions of signing Marcelo Bielsa as head coach and the Argentinian wants big name signings.
Blackman, 24, has spent his whole career out on loan and he is desperate for the right move in order to prove his worth. The former England youth international spent last season out on loan at Sheffield United, in which he failed to secure the no.1 spot from Simon Moore.
Leeds have had little luck in the window so far, with deals for key targets Kyle Bartley, Abel Hernandez and Matej Vydra all dead in the water. The signing of Forster would most certainly reignite the spark into Leeds’ hopes.
