Leeds United have started the 2018/19 Championship campaign better than head coach Marcelo Bielsa could ever have hoped for, picking up 14 points from their opening six league fixtures of the season, and sitting joint top of the division with Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough.
What’s the issue?
While it is hard to fault Leeds United for their impressive start to the Championship season, some question marks still remain over their goalkeeping situation.
Whilst the Lilywhites’ first-choice shot-stopper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has only conceded four goals in the opening six matches of the campaign, a number of mistakes have come close to costing Leeds the position they are in today.
Peacock-Farrell, who has been on the books at Elland Road since 2013, was at fault for Derby County’s goal early this season and could have done better with first away at Swansea City, thus showing the keeper has potential for mistakes.
There is no question that the 21-year-old is a talented player with a bright future, but the signing of a high-profile name between the sticks might just be enough to get Leeds United through the business end of the season, and potentially into the Premier League.
What can Nick Pope bring to Elland Road?
Nike Pope started the 2018/19 season as Burnley’s number one after a remarkable and successful campaign last season, which saw the Clarets secure European football for the first time in 51 years.
The 26-year-old stopper suffered a dislocated shoulder in Burnley’s Europa League second qualifying round first leg
