Tom Lockyer is eager to get Bristol Rovers’ new season underway, as the Gas prepare to play their first friendly today.
The Rovers captain returned to training with the rest of the squad last week, and is keen to get back to playing games, starting with Melksham Town at 3pm.
Boss Darrell Clarke has delayed the club playing friendlies, instead choosing to spend more time improving the squad’s fitness and tactical work, but the defender is ready to get back out on the pitch.
“When you do see the games start coming, you know the season’s almost here, and you start getting a little bit more excited.
“I won’t say you count the days down because obviously you enjoy your summer, but when you come back you’re here to work and you’re here to enjoy it.
“We’ve done loads of running it’s been really tough. We need that, but we also need games as well, so we are looking forward to it.”
For the dedicated supporters who make the trip to Wiltshire, all will be keen to see how their new-look Rovers squad line up.

Lockyer admitted that the manager has devised a clear plan for how he wants the team to play next season and is optimistic about how Bristol Rovers‘ new signings can benefit the team.
“I’m excited, I’ve seen them all in training and I think they’re brilliant additions for us”, he said.
