In case you are not an iFollow subscriber and missed the first introduction to Sam, here’s his only interview so far – niow on Freeview.
“I came through the ranks from an early age at the club (Middlesbrough) and I didn’t quite make the grade but I went out on loan at a few clubs and I got the bug to play so I dropped down a few levels and managed to play a lot of games in my time.”
Despite being appointed Goalkeeper coach, Russell has no plans to hang up the gloves just yet. “I’ll still be registered as a player, but I’m coming in as the goalkeeper coach. I love playing, I don’t want to stop playing but I think it’s a great time to integrate both together”.
During his most recent spell at Forest Green Rovers, Russell tasted success by helping them secure promotion to the English Football League for the first time in their history. “I had two spells at Forest Green which ended up being successful”, mentioned Russell.
“I had a great time there but I’m glad to be out of there and beginning my new role here. I’m really going to enjoy it, I think that I will be good for the role and my job is to go and push Macca as best as I can.”
