Unai Emery fielded a heavily-rotated team after making nine changes for tonight’s match against Sporting.

Only Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Rob Holding started at the Emirates tonight that played against Liverpool at the weekend.

Among the starters were Emile Smith Rowe, Aaron Ramsey and forgotten man Carl Jenkinson.

And the match was hardly full of incidents, with one of the only key events being a nasty injury to Danny Welbeck in the first half.

The 27-year-old suffered what looked like a serious injury to his right ankle and had to be stretchered off.

It comes hours after he was called up to the England squad, but it would be a miracle if he played any part in either fixture next week.

“When you see that on a pitch, and I have seen that a couple of times, it’s always a bit shocking,” Martin Keown said in the BT Sport studio at half-time.

“Maybe it’s a problem with the ankle, we don’t want to speculate, is it a dislocation?
