While they have Hector Bellerin as the indisputable right-back in their squad, Arsenal’s purchase of Stephan Lichtsteiner as backup for the Spaniard was always just a short-term solution.
The 34-year-old signed a one year deal in the summer, meaning there’s a good chance he’ll move to another club next year, leaving the Gunners without a backup in the position.
However, Mercato365 in France seem to think Arsenal are already planning for this, as they sent a scout to watch Dijon-Guingamp on Wednesday.
The man they were most likely watching was Valentin Rosier, the 22-year-old right-back, who is catching the eye of a number of clubs due to both his attacking prowess and his versatility.
Capable of playing either a bit further up the pitch or down the left, the France U21 international picked up an assist in the 2-1 win, Dijon’s first since August 25th.
Looking at the team sheets, it’s hard to see who else Arsenal could have been keeping an eye on, although Marcus Coco has been touted for a move away from Guingamp for some time now without anything ever really happening (he scored too).
Judging by Arsenal’s future needs and who was on display, Mercato365 are right and Rosier was probably the player their scout was focusing on.
