Liverpool returnes to winning ways by edging past Brighton 1-0 at the Amex Stadium to restore a seven point lead at the top of the table, with champions Manchester City to play on Monday night.

Mohamed Salah scored the only goal of the game to seal a hard-fought win for the Reds.

In a first half of pure frustration, Jurgen Klopp’s men struggled to carve out chances, partly because of the defensive sturdiness shown by the Brighton players. However, Xherdan Shaqiri had a chance to open the scoring when he was well found by Trent Alexander-Arnold. The former glanced his header just wide.

At the start of the second half, Liverpool stepped their game up and created more chances.

Eventually, some good work by Salah in the box forced Pascal Gross into making a bad challenge and give away a stonewall penalty.

The Egyptian then clinically tucked the spot kick away to seal the points.

Alisson – 7

He didn’t have a save to make but his general play was good.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7

Considering he was playing after falling down in the warm up, his performance was a testament to his commitment levels. A composed performance.

Fabinho – 8

Second game in a row at centre-back for the Brazilian and he coped up well. Looked solid throughout.
