Salah ‘contacts statue artist’ in support of work
Sculptures of famous footballers seem to be all the rage at present.
Cristiano Ronaldo famously had a bust in his honour completed that raised plenty of eyebrows online when it was unveiled last year.
Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has also previously had his image immortalised in his homeland of Egypt after firing his nation to the their first World Cup for 28 years.
However, not every supporter could see the resemblance when Salah’s own bust was displayed last year, as it earned humorous comparisons to Alan Sugar, David Gold and Lionel Richie.
And the Reds forward has again been on the receiving end of another perhaps less-than-flattering homage back in Egypt.
The bizarre bronze sculpture shows Salah in apparent celebration.
Egyptian sculptor Mai Abdel Allah unveiled this piece during the World Youth Forum but received some backlash for the creation.
Now the artist has posted on Facebook to say Salah herself has contacted her amidst the criticism.
The post loosely translates to, “International and our hero Captain our player Mohamed Salah personally contacted me just now and encouraged me to continue. He asked me not to pay attention to the negative comments and told me that I am a very good artist �� ️️And asked me to take my time in the work of a new statue to put him in his home.”
According to Egypt Today, Salah told her in a phone call on Wednesday that she is a good artist,
