Timothy Weah has been dealt a personal blow after being axed from the USA international senior squad, as reported on the Daily Record.
The striker, who is on loan at Celtic from French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, is widely considered as one of the best young American talents.
The forward has been dropped into the Under 23 USA squad after senior team manager Gregg Berhalter decided not to select him for the matches against Ecuador and Chile later this month.
The 19-year-old has mainly featured from the bench since joining the Hoops on loan in the January transfer window.
He has already made eight senior appearances for the USA senior side and was expected to be included in their selection.
When speaking about his selection, Berhalter said:
We had to make decisions for this camp and we looked at the players in a number of different buckets.
For example, we have some younger guys that aren’t getting the game time that they would have expected and they’re still age-eligible for the Olympics, so we think it’s a great opportunity for them to play two international games with the Under 23s team.
