Celtic veteran Mikael Lustig wants to extend his contract at Parkhead, despite rumours linking him with a move away.

The 32-year-old’s exit has been mooted in January or the summer, with the Hoops linked with a host of right-backs.

Celtic have a 12-month option to extend Lustig’s stay for another year at the end of the season, however – something Lustig told Expressen he is keen to see happen:

I have a contract with Celtic and hope to extend this.

The ball is with them. If they want me to continue, I’ll stay. If nothing happens, we’ll see.

Nothing is clear that we should move back to Sweden, so then it might as well be something else abroad.

I’m sure I’ll find something where I feel comfortable. The important thing is it will be good for the family and also in terms of football.

But I hope to remain in Celtic.

Lustig has been a stalwart for Celtic ever since arriving from Rosenborg in 2012.

The Swede has made 226 appearances for the club, winning seven Scottish Premiership titles.
