as reported by the birmingham mail,

Aston Villa target Scott McKenna is going from strength to strength with his current club Aberdeen and turned in a performance of the season on Wednesday night.

It was the 22-year-old’s goal that earned the Dons a rare away win against Rangers – but his strike was only half the story.

As Derek McInnes’ side recorded just their second win at Ibrox in 27 years, McKenna was the stand-out performer from start to finish.

He put the visitors ahead early on in the game and then stood firm as his side were reduced to ten men before the break.

McKenna’s first intervention in the game was to show sharp reflexes and composure to steer the ball high into the net after Niall McGinn’s free-kick was headed down by Sam Cosgrove – the striker who would later be sent off.

The defender then led his side with a display of calm authority at the back.

‘He was unflustered and at the heart of their rearguard action’, said a reporter at the game.

McKenna also provided one final intervention late in the game with a last-ditch tackle to prevent Ryan Jack from equalising.

Well, they certainly need defensive cover – and McKenna is a player who is growing in stature with every passing week.

He might be worth a little more than the £7million Villa were willing to pay in the last transfer window, though.
