BBC Sportsound pundit Tam McManus has defended Rangers duo Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace as the pair’s Gers careers look to be coming to an ignominious end.

The senior have have been suspended by the Ibrox club following a reported bust-up with Graeme Murty after the Gers’ 4-0 Scottish Cup loss to Celtic.

However, McManus has defended the actions of the players and blamed Gers owner Dave King for putting senior man Murty in a situation that he isn’t experience enough to deal with.

He discussed the situation on his personal Twitter account, and had strong words for King in particular.

“Two guys who care deeply about Rangers. Think it’s obvious now Murty is way out his depth but he has been thrown to the lions on and off the park by Dave King and company. After that embarrassing performance would have expected strong words from the experienced players,” the former Hibernian striker said.

It remains to be seen what will happen to Miller and Wallace, but the chances of them ever playing for the Gers again seems to be very remote.

Football Insider verdict

It is not a surprise that McManus is defending his fellow professionals, but obviously if the Ibrox board feel that the pair acted beyond the means of control then it’s not a surprise that they will be suspended. His comments on King and Murty are a different matter all together, and it has to be said that Murty doesn’t seem to be able to cope with the requirements needed to become first-team manager at Ibrox, but he does deserve respect for taking the job whilst the Ibrox board dithered about Pedro Caixinha’s replacement. Only time will tell what happens next at Ibrox but it does seem like Miller and Wallace’s days at the club are numbered.
