According to the recent reports, former Rangers defender and current Livingston captain Craig Halkett is now being tracked by Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers. Sheffield United currently sit on top of the Championship table and maybe they have identified Halkett as someone who can help them further in their pursuit of the English top flight.

The Gers are also said to be monitoring the centre back’s situation. The defender has been impressive ever since he left Rangers when Mark Warburton was the manager.  The 23-year-old defender is in the final year of his contract, and we believe Gerrard should go back in the January window to land this boyhood Rangers fan.

Halkett has been a leader at the back for his side, and surprisingly Livingston are sitting fifth on the table when they were supposed to be in a relegation scrap. Their defence has been the primary reason for that as currently, they have the second best defensive record in the league and Gerrard had praised him when Livingston got the better of Rangers by one goal to nil.

We believe Rangers should rectify the mistake Warburton made as Halkett has transformed into a proper defender after leaving Ibrox. Rangers have a right amount of options in defence at the moment but they need to remember that the likes of Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley are only on a short-term deal at the club. Therefore someone like Halkett could be the club’s go-to man in defence for years to come.
